Welcome to MAMA: Motherhood Around the Globe, a global online exhibition from the International Museum of Women, now part of Global Fund for Women. MAMA explores the realities and ideas of a new global generation of mothers through art, stories and powerful new voices. The exhibition aims to turn inspiration into action, helping fuel a worldwide movement of advocates for mothers’ human rights and advances in maternal health.

MAMA is an unprecedented online project, bringing together journalists, artists, thought leaders, filmmakers, and photographers from all over the world. The exhibition includes a sequence of nine exhibition topic galleries, each focusing on a different dimension of contemporary motherhood.  Each gallery features a remarkable body of work including: videos profiling mothers from around the world, multi-media art, big ideas from global thought leaders, a curated short story collection (and e-book, with exclusive content, available for purchase here), profiles of heroes and much more.

Leave comments on stories that inspire or intrigue you to start a conversation and help us spread the word about MAMA by sharing the exhibition with your networks!

The Pledge

Every 90 seconds a woman dies from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. IMOW partnered with Every Mother Counts to create a pledge to reverse these shocking statistics, and tell world leaders that women everywhere deserve safe and healthy birth. Thanks to the help of MAMA visitors and maternal health ambassadors we exceeded our goal of 10,000 pledge signatures! On September 25, 2012 in New York City, the names of 15800 men and women who signed the pledge were presented to UN Assistant Secretary General Robert Orr by Christy Turlington Burns, founder of Every Mother Counts. Your voices were heard!
